An IR remote control sends a signal with infrared light. You can't see this light with your eyes, but if you use a digital camera, cell phone camera, or camcorder in camera mode, you can see the signal.
To check if your IR remote is sending a signal, follow the steps below:
Select a device:
Digital Camera - Turn on the camera.
1. Phone with camera - Open the camera app.
2. Camcorder - Turn on the camcorder and set it to camera mode.
3. Point the end of the remote control with the IR transmitter at the camera or camcorder lens.
4. Look at the viewfinder or LCD screen.
Press and hold one of the buttons on the remote control.
If you point the remote at the camera and the print buttons, a flash should appear each time you press the button. If you do this, chances are good that the remote control is fine. The component's IR sensor may be defective (or blocked) or have a malfunction. If the flash doesn't occur every time, put brand new batteries in the remote control. If the problem persists, the remote control is probably the problem.
NOTE: If you see a light when no button is pressed, one of the buttons on the remote may be stuck, preventing other buttons from working. If this is the case:
Remove the batteries.
Press and release each key several times to see if you can loosen the stuck key.
Replace the batteries and test the remote control again.
If you continue to see a light when no button is pressed, the remote may need to be replaced.
